As many of you know, viruses are an increasing problem not just limited to computers. We have just become aware of a virus that may affect all Nokia, Siemens and Sony Ericsson phone owners. This virus can enter your phone in one of three ways:
1. You receive a blank sms/mms from another phone.
2. You accept a bluetooth connection.
3. You reply by sms or make a call in response to a special offer SMS message saying that you have won a prize, that somebody has sent you a photo etc.
The virus then sends blank smss/mmss to random numbers in your phone's address book, and so passes itself on. Very often it will send more than 1 message - we have cases of anywhere between 12 to 150 messages being sent. A new strain of the virus that has just come out will freeze the phone after sending out the messages so the phone cannot be used anymore. Unfortunately, as with many viruses, there is nothing that can be done to avoid receiving the virus but you can limit the damage that it can do to some degree. If you do receive the virus, please do the following:
1. Switch off your phone as soon as possible so the virus cannot be sent to other phones.
2. Do some research via www.google.com to get the best and up to the minute advise.
Since this is not a problem caused by Bright or Orange, we are sorry to say that we cannot reimburse any blank messages sent from any Bright phones as a result of this or any other virus.
Hopefully the affected phone companies will soon find a solution to this problem. In the mean time, please keep an eye on your phone and do not reply to any strange messages/bluetooth offer connections you receive at any point.
Any questions or queries about this virus please do not hesitate to contact us.
